09-2022-Jenkins-Update

There are a number of reasons why we have not performed an update to 2.346.3. In 2.346.3 the Jenkins community updated OpenJDK which introduced numerous memory usage issues that resulted in regressions. We don't know why they would change OpenJDK as part of a minor release. In any case, there were some significant issues with Java memory management that would impact all of you and we just did not want to move forward until this was fixed. Take a look at the JDK bug here https://bugs.openjdk.org/browse/JDK-8292260. Other notable issues are with memory https://issues.jenkins.io/browse/JENKINS-69352 (this one is JDK related) and Subversion https://issues.jenkins.io/browse/JENKINS-69244.

After reviewing the patched version of 2.346.3, we can confirm it is now looking good. This release has passed our reliability and performance tests.

We will be carrying out maintenance this weekend and updating the Managed Jenkins Service.

The change will happen on Saturday, 10/09/2022 and will take approximately 15 minutes.  The Servana Jenkins Distribution does not include all the plugins you use, so following the update, our support team will update the rest of the plugins and perform some quality checks. The overall change window will be 1 hour. Downtime will be minimised; however, there will be some restarts to update and reload the updated plugins.

Change Schedule
EUW, EUC & UK Cluster (GMT) 10/09/2022 @ 09:00
USE Cluster (GMT -5) 10/09/2022 @ 04:00
AUSE Cluster (GMT+11) 10/09/2022 @ 21:00

The update from v2.346.2 to v2.346.3-2 is a minor change.

We don't anticipate any issues but will take care to make sure your Jenkins Controller is ready to work once the update is complete.
